Glasgow's Weekly News: 15-Year-Old's Tragic Death, Tough Parking Fines & Bold New Developments in Glasgow
Murder squad detectives have launched a probe after 15-year-old boy was ‘stabbed to death’ in a Glasgow street.
Tragic Amen Teklay was fatally injured during an apparent knife attack in Clarendon Street on Wednesday at 10.30pm.
Emergency services attended but sadly the schoolboy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are treating his death as suspicious.
Tributes have been paid to Amen, of Knightswood, who has been described as a “funny” and “bright”.
He was a member of the Youth Group and Film Group of Kingsway Community Connections who posted that they were “deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death”.
The charity, who are based in Scotstoun, said that Amen was receiving support from their staff up until Wednesday afternoon, adding: “He was funny, bright and enjoyed playing football, he loved pizza nights and taking part in a summer BBQ.
“Our memories of Amen are encapsulated in this film he made together with his friends where he talked about why attending the group was important to him.
“Amen developed great relationships with our team, and we are all devastated with his sudden death.
“We are providing support to Amen's immediate family and our community as they come to terms with the loss of a Son, Friend and Brother.
“We ask that you consider the thoughts and feelings of those grieving the loss of a young man who had his whole life still in front of him and respect the privacy of his family and friends at this deeply upsetting time.
“KCC would also like to extend our thoughts to the other support agencies who we know were supporting Amen before his death and give thanks to the emergency services who tried desperately to save his life.”
Police sealed off the area where Amen was found.
Forensic officers in white suits could be seen yesterday combing the area in a bid to find a weapon or any other clues that could help police enquiries.
Officers have set up a dedicated website allowing the public to submit information directly to the Major Investigation Team, including the option to remain anonymous. The portal can be accessed at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/SCOT25S08-PO1.
Detective Superintendent Cheryl Kelly confirmed officers have been in contact with the boy’s family and are offering them specialist support during this difficult time.
“An extensive investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances,” she said. “We are gathering CCTV footage from the area, conducting door-to-door enquiries, and I would urge anyone with relevant information, or footage, to come forward."
Chief Inspector Colin MacLucas, Local Area Commander, said police would step up patrols in the area to reassure the community.
“We are working closely with our detective colleagues, and there will continue to be a visible police presence in the area,” he said.
“Anyone with information or concerns should feel free to approach officers for assistance."
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Police Scotland, quoting incident number 3652 of 5 March, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Greater Glasgow Police

Scotstoun Community Seeks Support to Fund Life-Saving Defibrillators
Scotstoun is without 24/7 publicly accessible defibrillators — a gap the local community council is determined to close.
The Scotstoun Community Council is now appealing to businesses and the public to help match-fund two life-saving defibrillators for the area.
The community council hopes to install one device at the Heart of Scotstoun community centre and another at the northern end of the neighbourhood, ensuring coverage across the area. Each defibrillator costs approximately £3,000 to buy and installed, with funding efforts still ongoing to meet the target.
And if the community council can raise £1000, St John’s Ambulance will cover the rest of the costs.
A community councillor said: "We're looking for match funding to help cover the costs, and any businesses or individuals who would like to support the cause should get in touch."
Anyone interested in supporting the initiative can drop an email to Scotstoun Community Council directly on scotscoco@gmail.com to pledge donations or find out more information about the campaign.
