Residents in Glasgow’s Southside were evacuated from their homes last night after a car ploughed into a shop..
Householders were instructed to leave their properties as a precaution after the vehicle struck the premises in Victoria Road at 5.50pm.
Firefighters and police arrived swiftly at the scene, assessing the structural damage to the building while ensuring the safety of nearby residents.
Though no injuries were reported, the collision caused major disruption, with traffic diversions quickly implemented.
As emergency services cordoned off the area, anxious onlookers gathered, watching the scene unfold.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

A brand-new ticket office and first-class lounge will open in Caledonian Chambers, right by platforms 1 and 2, offering more ticket machines, interactive information screens, and dedicated welcome desks to streamline the passenger experience.
The project also includes a step-free station reception, boosting accessibility for all travellers. Staff equipped with handheld devices will provide on-the-spot assistance, ensuring quicker service and a more visible presence across the station. Throughout the transition, Avanti West Coast’s current ticket office and lounge will remain open to maintain uninterrupted service.
In addition to passenger improvements, the station’s retail area is getting a makeover. New units will be introduced, and existing shops will be relocated, enhancing the overall station experience and making Glasgow Central a more dynamic and accessible travel hub.
⚽Glasgow to Have Fan Zones for Entire Euro 2028 Tournament

Planning is underway for the next edition of the European Football Championship, which is set to see six games played at Hampden Park.
Glasgow Life, the city council’s arms-length culture and sport organisation, will work with other organisers, including both governments and the European football governing body UEFA, to help deliver the event.
In an update to the city’s licensing forum, an official from Glasgow Life said fan zones are planned “for the duration of the entire championships”.
When Glasgow hosted games at Euro 2020, which was delayed until 2021 due to the Covid pandemic, Glasgow Green was used as a fan zone.
There had been original plans for event zones in the Merchant City and George Square.
🔥🚒Deliberate Fires in Glasgow's North East Drop Nearly 50%

A document presented to the Shettleston area partnership last week highlighted that during the first quarter of 2024/25 Scottish Fire and Rescue Services responded to a total of 753 incidents in the North East Sector of Glasgow.
Figures revealed that between April 1 and June 30, 2024 there were 240 fires reported compared to 429 fires during the same period the previous year.
The report confirmed that quarter one saw an overall reduction of 32% in incidents attended in the North East compared to last year with a decrease of 48% of deliberate fires set from 267 to 140.

Police Release Images of Two Men Following Incident at Celtic Park
Police Scotland has released images of two men they believe may have information which could assist the investigation into an incident within Celtic Park, Glasgow during a Celtic and Rangers football game on Saturday, 11 May, 2024.
The first man is described as white, in his mid-30s, wearing a green and white bucket style hat.
The second man is described as white, in his mid-30s, wearing a black baseball cap, and has a tattoo on his left upper arm.
Constable Ryan Beveridge of the Greater Glasgow Football Enquiry Unit said: “I would ask these men or anyone who has information on their identity to contact us.
“Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 0942 of 11 May, 2024. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
Police Want to Speak to Two Men after Glasgow Assault
Police Scotland have released images of two men who they believe may be able to assist them with their enquiries into a serious assault in Glasgow.
The incident happened around 1.20am on Friday, 19 April, 2024, on Boyd Street, Govanhill.
The first man is described as: white, 30s, medium build, wearing a black and green half-panelled jacket, grey jogging bottoms and black trainers.
The second man is described as: white, wearing a blue sports-style top, blue denim jeans and white trainers.
Detective Constable Paul Harris, of Cathcart CID, said: “I would urge the men pictured, or anyone who knows them, to contact the police.
“If you have any information that can assist with our investigation, then please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 0205 of the Friday, 19 April, 2024.
“Alternatively, make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
Man Dies After Falling from Height Inside Glasgow Modern Art Gallery
A 55-year-old man has died after falling from a height inside an art gallery on Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow, on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12:30pm, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A full report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal
Driving on drugs is never worth the risk
There is no 'safe' amount of drugs you can take and still be safe to drive, says Police Scotland.
Officers will be on patrol and have the ability to test for drugs on the roadside.

The My Health, My Rights Charter, created by young people aged 9-17 with health conditions, was launched at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children (RHC). Designed to be accessible to under-18s, the charter includes illustrations by children and patients, aiming to make health rights relatable. Rhianne Forrest from Children’s Health Scotland said the charter was “created by children and young people, for children and young people.”
As part of Scottish Children’s Health Week, the hospital celebrated the charter with free activity books for young patients. Chief Nurse Mandy Meechan praised the initiative, noting that children are central to the hospital’s care and highlighting the Play Team’s role in easing anxiety and supporting understanding through activities like the Teddy Hospital.
