A final note on The Splash
Reader support now determines what The Splash can continue to publish
Hi,
I just wanted to send a quick final note following my message a couple of days ago.
Since then, two readers has signed up — which I genuinely appreciate. It’s a small signal, but an important one.
I also want to be clear and fair about where things stand.
The Splash isn’t struggling for readership. Thousands of people are still reading the stories each week.
The challenge is simpler: not enough of that readership is converting into paying support to sustain the work long-term.
Right now, the gap between reading and funding is what determines what The Splash can realistically continue to do at this level.
🧭 What this means in practice
If you value having independent reporting on Glasgow’s local issues — the kind of stories you’ve seen recently — then supporting it is what keeps it going in its current form.
If not, that’s completely fine too. There’s no expectation beyond reading.
But I do need to be honest: without more reader support, the scope of what The Splash can produce will have to be scaled back.
🗞️ What you’ve been reading
Recent coverage has included:
conditions along the Clyde riverside between Saltmarket and Clutha junction
disputes over development pressure in the West End
transport and infrastructure concerns across the city
and wider questions about how Glasgow’s public spaces are changing
This is the kind of reporting that only exists because readers choose to support it directly.
🔒 If you want to support it
A subscription is from £5 per month.
👉 [Subscribe below.
It takes less than a minute, and it directly funds the reporting you’re reading.
If you don’t
That’s absolutely fine — you’ll still continue to receive selected free stories.
I just wanted to be transparent about where things stand.
Thanks again for reading and engaging with the work.
